Good question. Meet The GIMP is a resource hub built around one simple idea: professional-quality image editing should not require a professional-grade budget. We cover GIMP tutorials, tips, and workflows — plus whatever other free and open-source graphics tools catch our attention along the way.
Who runs this site?
A small team of graphics enthusiasts and open-source advocates who have been using GIMP since before it had single-window mode. We create video tutorials, written guides, and the occasional rant about why proprietary lock-in is unnecessary for most creative work.
Why GIMP over Photoshop?
Honestly? Both are capable tools. GIMP just happens to be free, runs on every major platform, and respects your right to inspect and modify the software you depend on. For most editing tasks — retouching, compositing, color correction — it handles things just fine. We are not here to start a holy war. We are here to show you what GIMP can actually do.
What kind of tutorials do you offer?
Everything from absolute basics (cropping, resizing, color adjustments) to more advanced techniques (layer masks, Python-Fu scripting, Octave sharpening plugins). Most of our content comes as video walkthroughs because watching someone work through a problem tends to stick better than reading about it.
Do you review other software too?
When it is relevant and genuinely useful, yes. We have covered WordPress plugins, PDF tools, image conversion utilities, and related open-source projects. If it helps creatives work smarter without spending more, it probably fits our scope.
