Release 1.0 of Rawstudio

In total it took two years of development but there it is: version 1.0 of Rawstudio. Congrats to the developers! Apart from the usual bug fixes and GUI enhancements the most noticeable feature is probably the possibility to export to GIMP.

Rawstudio is an application to manipulate RAW images of digital cameras. RAW applications are not fully fledged image editors but they rather prepare the RAW images for further processing in e.g. GIMP. In a way one could say that converting a RAW image is developing a digital negative.

Joel has an interview with one of the developers on his fine site.

    Thanks Serge! Now I have to cover that…..

    So what does this mean for UFRAW? Should I use Rawstudio or UFRAW? Or do they do different things?

    “It’s all a matter of taste” said the monkey and bit in the piece of soap. ;-)

    I have installed it and contacted the developers. Nice guys, instant reaction. (I never got a mail back from UFRaw…..)

    I’ll try it, talk to them and make a video. Then I hope to be able to say what I prefer for me.

    They are both RAW converters and thus do basically the same. Until now, Rawstudio has been considered less mature and less sophisticated than UFRaw. Only batch handling was seen as the strong point of Rawstudio. With UFRaw one needs to use the command line.
    Due to the recent developments of Rawstudio, however, it might very well be on a par now with UFRaw. I have never used Rawstudio, so I am curious what Rolf’s experience will be.

    The podcast will be about 2 hours long if I cover all that is on Anders’ (one of the developers) list. ;-)

    /me whistles ;)

    I know the list were very long, but as i said, we find all those features important to the workflow in rawstudio :)

    I think you should try using it a bit and see what you feel needs to go into the video.

    @Andrew

    You probabaly want using UFRaw for perfect colors :-) Rawstudio is still lacking under-/overexposure correction and precise color temperature input.

    Hi Rolf,

    Good to see you venturing out and try Rawstudio. If anyone is interested, I did an interview with Anders (Brander) another of the fine people behind Rawstudio.
