Episode 017: Selecting Selections Part 1
Selections are widely used in Gimp. Select something to work only on that, to cut or copy it, to move it around…..
In this video I cover the basics of selections, the usage of the rectangle, elipse and free hand selection tool with all their options, the different selection modes (replacing, adding, substracting and intersecting) and the different keyboard shortcuts you can use. Yes, there is a difference between first pressing shift and then the mouse or the other way around.
Finally I show you how to work with the Quickmask to make finetunings to your selection and how to save a selection for later use in a channel.

Rolf - will you be putting **PROMINENT** reminder that torrent feeds are available starting next week so viewers will get it that way rather than downloading?
btw: I eventually got all the mtg0nn.zips - took about 12 hours. Looked like they were all coming from a single source in France (Martii?) which would complete one in a couple of hours and then start servicing the next request.

I’ll announce that again in the next show - but I see the torrent as an additional offer.
About a third of the viewers use miro - they can switch to the torrent if they see an advantage in that.
About half of the audience uses iTunes (again half of them on Mac an Windows, head to head battle all the time…). They will have to stick to the download.
The remaining sixth uses a lot of different programs that rely on the feed. My favorite (podcatcher) has risen from one to three users recently, the Geeks are coming.

I am just downloading it without problems. Perhaps a glitch at the server?

Yes! Now it’s starts to download. Thanks for your reply.

The popup video player is working (Mac OS X 10.4) BUT it downloads the whole video before playing - don’t know if you can set it to stream, but it would be preferable …

I think I’ll kill that popup player. The log shows 2 partly for every successfull download.

Excellent episode! I learned a lot from this episode. I found the Quick Mask info especially interesting.
