manuee should have a look at Irfanview.

Irfanview can change from almost any known image type to any other.

It also has powerful features for resizing, resampling and lossless jpeg transformations.

Great for those final touches before sending to the web.

Good show again. Thanx Rolf and Heathenx.

I'd had already taken a look at several of the heathenx shows by the time this mtg show has been issued, and all I can say is that they are wonderful.

Inkscape is nice and powerful, and I had already recommended to my drawer collegues (you'll remember having heard of them from me on the cmyk topic). They are using Illustrator (if I'm right) but they are willing to be able to jump to Inkscape. They have found some issues that don't allow them to do so at the present, maybe one day I'll try to look for workarounds to solve them...

In the meanwhile, time for me to learn some more about Inkscape.

Once again, thank you very much Rolf and Heathenx

I have been following screencasters tutorials for some time now, they do a great job. I've learned a lot about the general workflow in inkscape just by watching them do practical excercizes.

I have yet to find someone to explain to me a problem that I think many people in the free software world encounter, and that is making gfx's for the web. I definetly use inkscape for icons etc, and then try finishing up in GIMP.
But my question is, ... how to best tackle the image file size issue? Perhaps this could be a good idea for a screencast discussion between the both of you, would definetly be worth the effort even if you don't come up with a "windows idiot proof" solution, I'm sure it will sparkle some useful discussion.

Thanks and keep up the excelent work everyone!

Alec: tango black and tango white are just the black and white colors from the Tango Project palette[1]. Nothing to worry about.

Rolf, what's the top secret project you talked about? :)

a little later - that was easy :-)

though I don't think recreating it from a raster image would be as easy as heathenx said :-)

Rolf - after watching the show ...
Question: what is/are "tango black" and "tango white" -googling didn't make it clear.

You briefly mentioned that an svg file is really an xml file which can be opened with an editor but didn't mention that it has a built-in editor Shift+Ctrl+X which allows you to click on an element in Inkscape and see (and tweak) the XML that defines it!.

At the beginning of the show heathenx said that you supplied him with a the gimp mascot as an SVG file. AFAICT it wasn't included in your ZIP file and googling things like "gimp icon wilbur svg" didn't turn it up. Is it available anywhere? (I guess my next "project" is to try and strip out the orange ball and text from included meetthegimp_logo.svg in the zip to try and get back to *JUST* wilbur.

Another great show!

Rolf - I'm still getting a 404 on http://meetthegimp.galifree.com/mtg041.zip after several hours? Is it still pending or did something go wrong with your upload?

The one for #39 works.
