In this show you’ll see all the panorama shots you sent in for the Panorama Challenge in Episode 019 in a slideshow with music from ccmixter.org. I play “Samurai Story” from shockshadow. I have asked Chris Marquardt from Tips from the Top Floor, Happy Shooting, Photocast Network and other stuff to give me a random number for drawing the winner.
For preparing the images for the slideshow I used Phatch, a Python based image batch processor. Found at Joel’s website (were else – I promise the next show will be completely without Joel.
). And of course I show you how to work with Phatch.
Then I ask for help.
First for my friend Lee in Florida.Lee has owned and operated her own printing company for over 20 years, and in that time has handled everything that goes into running your own business, from sales and estimating to typesetting and graphic design, to scheduling, inventory, quality assurance, office and staff management, customer service and accounts receivable. If you happen to have any connections in the printing/publishing industry and can suggest any leads, please email her directly at morningstar14@gmail.com .
I need help with learning enough Python to write scripts for GIMP. Do you know a good site or other ressource? Mail me!
Do you want to give some input into this site? News from Open Source programs that fit the target group? Tips and tricks not on the show? Mail me and I’ll give you an account for the blog.
Do you have a good idea what to do with GIMP? Make a screencast and I’ll publish it. I’ll write some advice for screen recording down in the next weeks. BTW, the best running show for now is Joseph’s panorama show.

Hello, Ralf. I can help you with the learning of the python. But I never write scripts for the Gimp. But I want to try it because today I found some examples, how to run gimp in the batch mode to execute a scheme scripts. I think, that we can do this with python scripts too.
Good Luck!
Thanks!
Perhaps we can kick off a conversation at 23? I’ll start a thread when I am ready.
Anyone a website with a good, straight tutorial?
Here are some basic python tutorials (some for non programmers):
http://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide/NonProgrammers
I’m still looking for the python-fu tutorial…
The long documentation in case someone needs it:
http://python-fu.sourceforge.net/docs.html
Hi Rolf,
Thanks for the nice show. I had never heard of Phatch. I like the mathematical approach of choosing the winner by the way. Do you have a scientific background?
Congrats, RobA!
The GIMP site provides also documentation on Python:
http://www.gimp.org/docs/python/index.html
Hope it helps.
Great show! I thought the quality of the panoramas was excellent. I loved seeing my own on there, I always knew I’d be famous one day
Congrats to RobA on the prize, I think he was number 6 and I was number 5. So close,……story of my life
Yes, close. But you got the slot in the Big Intro Panorama, a once in a lifetime event!
LOL!
Yes, I was rather pleased about that.
I’ve Emailed a link to the show to all my friends, so that’s *two* more viewers you should have this week.
I think in the next weeks the subscribers will go through 1500 – thanks for the help!
I tried to zoom into the left edge of your panorama and pan from there but couldn’t figure out how to get a pleasing result. But I like this version with the music on also. And Wales is marked as a place to visit in the next years.
Thanks for the luck of the draw! Hope you all liked my two submissions.
The small images at 23 don’t do them justice. I have them displayed at my blog http://ffaat.pointclark.net/blog/141-Meet-the-GIMP-Panoramas.html displayed using the PTViewer Java applet.
On a side note, an acquaintance built this lego robot for automatically taking panoramic sets: http://www.philohome.com/panobot/panobot.htm Thought you would all find it interesting.

I really enjoyed listening to the music which accompanied all those fantastic panorama photographs whilst I relaxed in my easy chair. I could never produce good landscape images so landscape panoramas were way beyond my capabilities. The more I look at them the more I wish . . . .
A very relaxing combination of photographs an music!
I saw the show on my way home in the train and I had to stop it because I nearly fell into sleep. But then I would have missed all the fine pictures and the interesting PHATCH part…
Great show Rolf !!
Just sitting back and looking at everyones panorama was great !
Seeing mine was great too !
Congrats RobA.
Hi, new subscriber! I’m catching up on your earliest shows, you know the ones where you said you were talking to your friends, basically. I imagine the situation has changed dramatically in the meantime.
Just wanted to say hi from the past. I love the show. I decided to watch them all and finally learn to use this thing. Until now i have just been clumsily poking around. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Luis, welcome!
Well, now there are about 3000 friends around.
