To open an image stored on web you do not have to save it to your hard disk. Instead, you can just copy its URL and in GIMP choose File -> Open Location. In the dialog box that opened you just paste the URL and it will load into GIMP automatically.

I didn't know that adding a tag like (500ms) would define how long it would show in the actual gif!

Rolf, There's an option called blend in the menu Filters->animation which does the same basic thing. After you've decided the number of frames a script produces the mixed layers.
After that it's needed to input the things you learned. The way to save, the name's of the layers, the time of exposure, should it be combined or replaced etc.
As always. Keep going on. Keep producing.
Friendly regards

Greate show ;)
I've played with animation for some time....

There is a way to do it little bit faster, when you need more blending images:

You don't need to flat the blending images just slide the Opacity to the right level, then use the menu ( EDIT - Copy Visible) and in your base image press STRG+V and the new layer button to get this in a layer.

There is also some scriptFu stuff witch did the blending for you....

You can also play with some other effects like colors or sharpness in the blending images.

Perhaps you have switched animation off in your browser?

I've had partial success...animation looks fine with gimp but doesn't animate when I upload it as avatar. I don't know how to check it as you did with Mozilla. Any help appreciated!
