Meet the GIMP!

There will be no show today, my work and a recording for the Focusring Podcast got in the way. I’ll be on show No. 9 there, out in the next days.

I have prepared some stuff and could have made a quick show for tonight, but I doubt if I would have reached a sufficient level of quality. The last one was made under pressure and is not one of the best….

My work on the schedule at school is finished and I got a “Lazy Friday” with only one class for myself. So I’ll change the release day to Tuesday. This way I can do the show with enough time and care over the weekend.

On Tuesday you’ll see something about Raw, Tiff, Jpeg, sensor sizes, compression, in camera processing or external Raw conversion and when to use what.

The site was down today for 7 hours or so. There was a router problem in the data center.

Episode 9 has been reencoded and uploaded. All problems solved!

…. and will be online at 21:30 German time (UTC-2) or so again. With repaired sound - I hope.

I thought I was out of disk quota, but when I deleted the file on the server the program told me that I had got the filespace back. Great service from podhost.de!

There seems to be a problem with the sound in the last episode. I don’t know how much people are affected, up to now I got about 10 “complaints” after 1200 downloads.

I tried it on a Windows notebook from my school - same story. I’ll put out a service announcment this evening and will reencode the show in the old way. Upload on Sunday (I hope), the quota will rise then by 200MB again.

I got a lot of requests for images from the show. Alec Burgess has set up a web page with some of the files. I’ll try to get to adding stuff.

Just now I am attendig a photography workshop for two weeks. So there is no time to get into details with web pages and so on. But the show will be out at 18:00 my time (UTC-2) on thursday.

For episode 6 I have put the original file, the layer mask and the final image at my 23hq account. You can download them from there. The files are under the same CC license as the shows. The full size image is only accessible for hq23 members. Just sign up - it’s free and a nice site. I went there because flickr.com censors my access to their images.

Finally - I think you should use your own pictures. You’ll learn more by tinkering with your stuff than by just copying my moves.
