Meet the Gimp! goes to China!

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

The chinese internet users have some difficulties with the feedburner feed. So I have set up a special feed for China at Feedsky. I hope this works out behind the Great Firewall.

Support Creative Commons!

Friday, November 9th, 2007

I got a nice letter from Lawrence Lessig today. He had some questions about the licensing of “Meet the Gimp!” under Creative Commons and asked for support. (Well, eh…. the letter started “Hello Blogger,…..” but isn’t it nice to get mail from a famous professor? ;-) )

Creative Commons is a great thing and I was astonished that it has been only around for 5 years now. It seems so obvious. Everybody who wants to can use my videos in a lot of ways - even cut them in pieces or run them backwards on big screens in a football stadium (no idea why somenone could want to do that…). Even selling them is possible without asking me or having to share the money. There are two things the license (and I) insists on: tell my name (attribution - BY) and publish it under the same license (share alike - SA).

But I haven’t given them away. I still own the copyright and if someone wants to do something that is not covered under the license, he can ask me about a deal.

And now it’s time to support Creative Commons. There is a donation widget on the sidebar, clicking on that with your credit card in hand is highly encouraged.

WARNING! Feed Change ahead!

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

I am just changing the provider for the hosting of the podcasts. My old provider (podhost.de) also provides the feed at the moment. So I’ll build my own feed from now on and have to change the feed that feeds into feedburner.com.

That will happen on Tuesday, Nov. 6th, 0:00 GMT.

If you use either the feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/meetthegimp, the miro directory or iTunes, you have to change nothing. Just watch your downloading software on Tuesday. I hope it wll not start to download all the old shows, but who knows?

If you are using the feed at podhost.de, change to the feedburner feed. The podhost feed will dry up.

And, PLEASE, don’t use the feed coming out of meetthegimp.org! It’s just the same as feedburner - but it hits my bandwidth.

Wishlist

Monday, October 29th, 2007

In the “Basic stuff” part of the sidebar is a new wishlist. There I’ll put stuff that will or shall be covered. I can’t activate the comments on that page. So post your wishes here - I’ll copy them onto the page if I like them.

Pirates!

Martii helped me to set up a BitTorrent seed. Now you can Meet the Gimp at Pirate Bay.

The Server ate my Upload :-( Twice! :-(

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I tried twice to upload the show - that takes about 40 minutes normally. Both times the connection died on me after about half an hour. This is http-upload only - so I have to upload again from start. Arrrg! I am going to bed now and try again after I had my first cup of tea in the (laaaate) morning.

I am not shure that I’ll stay at podhost.de. :-(

Excuses…… ;-)

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

The show will be out tomorrow. I had some fights with my mailserver, tried to get a Skype recording in Linux (you’ll never guess how I solved that problem - revealed in the next show) got a cold just in time to my autumn school break and had to celebrate my birthday.
John Arnold from Photowalkthrough picked the winner of the triptych challenge in a perfect random way.  No, you will get the name in the show, not now. I’ll show you all the images that came in. And you’ll get a bit of Gimp too - but not today.

Argggg!

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

podhost.de ate my upload that should have finished while I was playing billard with my friend Jotty. I am trying it again just now.

But I have only time for one try, then I have to go to bed. I am definitly thinking about changing the provider - podhost.de has only http upload which dies from time to time. And then I have to move 50+MB again through the DSL uplink…. Definitly no fun!

1010!

:-)

The show will be out later this evening - just rendering. But I will have to play some Billard before uploading. ;-)
